The game to be played when in France! Petanque is played with steel balls "boules" and can be played 1-1, 2-2 or 3-3. In short, each player have 2-3 boules each which are going to be throwed at the "jack", a smaller ball in wood. Closest boules is winning. The game plan is 12x3 metres or 15x4. Petanque can be viewed or played in any little village, and of course even in Murviel there are game plans just short of D'oc D'or. Or you can practice your play at our slightly smaller plan in the garden. Petanque must be played enjoying a glass of wine or pastis! Full kit of rules can be found HERE
Sea, lakes and rivers
For a swim in the Mediterranean our favorites beaches are Serignan and Portiranges Plage. At Marsellian Plage you will find a large modern camping site and a nice boardwalk. Valras plage is a little more crowded and in the midst of everything. At Cap' D'Agde you will find a variety of beaches for all, even one for nudists!
For the more adventurous, go for a swim in the streaming river Orb, which is nearby. If you are looking for a more traditional "beach", the pebbled shores in the village of Roquebrun and Cessenon-sur-Orb is the best places for a dip. Our favourite spot is under the bridge at Les Rouchans, popular but less accessible, or upstreams from the canoeing rental at Réals, but there are plentiful other places where you can enter the Orb for a refreshing dip. More informal swimming can be found 10 minutes from the village in and at the village Ceps you can drive almost to the brink.
Lac Salagou is a man-made lake made by damming a stream, to ease irrigation and to prevent flooding. The landscape is absolutely unique, with red ochre soil, slightly desert in look, turquoise waters and blue skies. It lies at the foot of the deserted "gost village" of Celles. As the lake is big, there are many spots for quiet swim, but you can also enjoy fishing (buy a fishing license!) windsurfing, kitesurfing and pedal boats.
Hiking, biking and canoeing
For the outdoor person, there are plenty to do.
