Wine

Languedoc is all about the wine, and we are proud of it! Many really good A.O.P 's "appelation origine protegee" competes in giving you excellent wine for a really fair price. Murviel is A.O.P St. Chinian, and the grape varietys allowed within the A.O.P are syrahgrenachemourvèdrecarignan and cinsault  some examples (and there's plenty more!)

Cave Cooperative, Sca les Coteaux de Rieutort. Here you find really good local wines for good prices. A personal favorite is the red "Schiste" quite characteristic for the region. A tasting is mandatory! The Cave also have new wine releases and occasions for parties, where you can just go and have a free drink and buy something  simple to eat. Great ambience at a walking distance!

Domaine la Maurine, in the nearby village of Causses et Veyran, Sébastien Collot produces his wines and are happy to show his Domaine and give you a tasting of his wines. Collot is ambitious and aiming for high quality to a moderate price. Les Secrets de Paul is a favorite! His wines are represented at the table d'hôtes of our Maison.

Domaine Lanye-Barrac a recently started vineyard by the young and very skilled couple Mélanie et Bernhard Backhaus. Bernhard is a skilled and experienced sommelier from Bordeaux and Australia. Their 25 HA, all in one lot, enables them to create the wine they want and are proud of. All grapes are carefully handpicked and selected to give an excellent wine. Organic and bordering on biodynamic, no additives or pesticides are used. The extended family of donkeys, sheep and cows helps out with fertilizing and pruning during the winter and the moon calendar is used to create very interesting wines in a (for the moment) close range. LA RABIDOTE is a personal favorite . Their wines are represented at the table d*hôtes of our maison.

Château Coujan . Family owned in generations, now Florence Guy rules the empire. A lot of peacocks struts the estate and can be enjoyed at your visit. The estate is nearby, situated just outside Murviel. Good wines for moderate prices, especially the white Cuvée Bois Joli Blanc we enjoy. The family, has a long history dating back to 1675, when the heritage started with the "first" father and son Birot. They propose a wide range of quality wines, rosés, whites and of course reds for very moderate prices. Chateau Viranel. Makes great wine in a wide range. Their prestige wine"V" was rewarded 95/100 by Parker and was given Gold Medal 2014, 2015 and 2016 in "50 best wines of the year". The Estate is tucked away at the foot of the hills above te beautiful village Cessenon-Sur-Orb and have an ancient history built on the reminiscence of a gallo-romaine villa. Wine has been produced here during almost 5 centuries - since 1551. Today the estate is run by the two brothers Nicolas och Arnaud Bergasse –Milhé, who produces great wine with skills, innovative methods and determination. The wines of Château Viranel are represented at the table d'hôtes of our Maison.

Domaine de Ravanés. One more beautiful wine estate, located in the near vicinity of D'oc D'or. At Ravanés, Marc Benin makes prestigious wines at a estate, packed with history dating back to the romans and wisigoths. With somewhat a-typique terroir, Ravanés has a philosophy to make the best wine but not necessarily typically for the region under the label of Pays d'Hérault IGP. Instead, working with new techniques and a wider range of grape varieties, M. Benin manages among his range to make fine wines of more bordeaux character. The wines of Domaine de Ravanés are represented at the table d'Hôtes of our Maison.

Mas des Dames. Another family at heart business, the wine at this estate is made by a female winemaker, Lidewij van Wilgen, who moved to Languedoc from the Netherlands with her family to live her passion. The Mas is located just north of Murviel and agrees to visits on Tuesdays (English) and Thursdays (Dutch and/or English). Good wine for a little upmarket prices, the Estate has won several prices.
